The day began early in the morning. Team Shiloh was "Exhausted". Mentally we were jaded, Physically we were exhausted. However, we still pushed and pressed on. The issue of "Will the event happen" was at the back of our heads. The main thing is our heads were "Lets get this show on the road". Just going there and hoping for the best. Decoration and setup had to be done and started from scratch and we had to source for plates and so on from the pottery department. With the previous experiences RP has with the weaving department, we didn't use any of the kramas as part of our aesthetics. Aside from our model, we also included the models from the weaving department. It was a few mins of their work to relax and be part of the event to display their art pieces. There were rather shy initially when we demonstrated to them how to model but with much persuasion, we were able to help them take pride in their work and also teach them how to relax and have fun in a good and healthy way. It was really interesting and from their expressions, they were really happy with the short entertainment for the day. The response from the delegates were also very welcoming. As it was the first time for all of them attending such events, we were confident that should PKTC want to reach out to more tourism industry players, an industry open house would be one of the options that they have in mind. Mr Khorn, took them on a tour around the centre. And they saw live demontrations by the weavers and potters. He was also the best person to talk to them because he could converse in Khmer. Being the coordinator and emcee for the day, i was really scared.Fear of language barrier was my top priority. I had to speak very simple english and not much of broken english but rather speaking very slowly did help alot and later, explaining individually on how they can contact the centre and also giving out the brochures. It was tiring to explain the details one by one individually but it was good training. Each delegate had their fair share of questions but on the whole, they were amazed at how a group of students from overseas were able to have such an event and that we are willing to help PKTC penetrate into the tourism industry. It was tiring but from the response, the last few days of hell was well worth it. Indeed it was.
